F O R T H C O M I N G THE WORD / SŁOWO This anthology is a bi-lingual edition of the most prominent of Polish poets from Mickiewicz to the present day, bringing awareness of 200 years of Polish poetry to both Polish and English readers.
Marcel Weyland was born in Łódź, Poland in 1927 and came to Australia in 1946. He is held in high regard as translator and interpreter of Polish poetry. His previous translations were Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz published by Verand Press in 2002 and by Begell House, New York in 2004 and Echoes: Poems of the Holocaust, Verand Press 2007. Marcel Weyland was awarded the order Zasłużony Dla Kultury Polskiej – Order of Merit by the Polish Government in 2005 for his contribution to Polish poetry and in 2008 he was awarded the Medal of The Order of Australia ‘for service to the Polish community in Australia and internationally through the preservation and promotion of Polish cultural heritage, particularly literature’. He lives in Sydney with his wife, artist Phillipa Keane. They have 5 children, 21 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
